This WimLib method will be similar to the DISM one.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since <a href=\"http:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/wimlib\/files\/testing\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wimlib 6.3<\/a>, you no longer need a Windows 8.1 Update 1 source which means you can use any Winpe 3\/4\/5 version !<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here below the procedure (we assume Win8.1U1 is already installed on C drive):<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">1-<strong>Lets make a WINPE<\/strong>\u00a0out of \u00a0windows (7 or 8)\u00a0iso\/dvd (I use\u00a0<a style=\"color: #227ad1;\" href=\"http:\/\/reboot.pro\/topic\/18744-quickpe4\/\" target=\"_blank\">QuickPE<\/a>) .<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">2-<strong>Boot onto this Winpe<\/strong>\u00a0(I use\u00a0<a style=\"color: #227ad1;\" href=\"http:\/\/rufus.akeo.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\">rufus<\/a>\u00a0to \u00ab\u00a0burn\u00a0\u00bb the winpe iso onto USB).<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">3-<strong>Capture the installation<\/strong>\u00a0:\u00a0<code>wimcapture.cmd c:\\ e:\\install.wim --wimboot<\/code><br \/>\nNote : e:\\ is a second partition on my hard drive.<br \/>\nNote : wimlib binaries are in x:\\extra\\wimlib if you used QuickPE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">4-<strong>Format C drive<\/strong>\u00a0(so that we start from a fresh drive)<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">5-<strong>Apply our wim file<\/strong>\u00a0(from step 3) to my C drive :\u00a0<code>wimapply.cmd e:\\install.wim c:\\ --wimboot<\/code><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Note : <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">before<\/span> step 5, you may want to perform the following command <code>wimlib-imagex update install.wim 1 --command=\"add CustomWimBootCompress.ini \\Windows\\System32\\WimBootCompress.ini\"<\/code> in order to fully apply bootmgr files (and not use pointers to the wim file).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/labalec.fr\/erwan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/CustomWimBootCompress.txt\">Here<\/a> is the customewimbootcompress.ini.<br \/>\nThis applies <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only<\/span> if you have one unique boot &amp; system partition which is nowadays rarely the case as Windows always created a hidden\/reserved partition for the boot files.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">And voila, you should end up with a C drive occupied by only 250 MB\u00a0(before 1st boot where pagefile.sys and hyberfil.sys will be created).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In\u00a0the previous article, we have seen how to benefit from the new wimboot feature of MS Windows 8.1 using the DISM command.
